Join us at 11:45 a.m., Thursday, October 1, as we dive into creating inclusive content and being a voice for the voiceless with Danielle Dempsey-Swopes, director of university diversity & inclusion at Washburn University. This meeting will take place via Zoom. Log-in information will be sent out the morning of October 1 to those who register. 

Danielle will visit with us about Washburn's culture of diversity and inclusion, as well as her role in supporting communications and education about these initiatives at Washburn and within our community. She will share with us best practices for how we can make our own content more diverse and inclusive, and be a voice for the voiceless. 

As Washburn University’s Director of Diversity and Inclusion, Danielle Dempsey-Swopes, JD, provides a vision, intellectual leadership and counsel to university leaders on matters of diversity and inclusion. She collaborates across the Washburn community to create a welcoming environment that embraces diversity and aligns with the university values and strategic goals.

Danielle works to establish programs and events to promote a culture of openness and inclusion. She collaborates with university leaders to improve student experiences, engage in proactive recruitment, training and change management to improve the overall campus climate. Together, they apply the latest research, trends and best practices to address diversity issues at WU.

She is a licensed Kansas attorney with 20 years’ experience in these initiatives, as well as campus climate and equity programs, recruitment and retention, Title IX, Title VII complaint investigations, complaint mediation, disability accommodations, and affirmative action and equal opportunity federal contractor compliance. She also has experience with civil rights law and diversity employee training, compliance reviews, and policy and program development.
