Winds of Change

Winds of Change

“I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.” – Jimmy Dean

Constant change is something we can’t control. Many control freaks, such as me find that hard to accept and consequently, change brings about additional anxiety.

We know it’s inevitable, so why do we continue to resist rather than learn to embrace and accept? This is one of the things I’m working on this year with my Life Coach, aka my therapist. (Life Coach is a much more positive and descriptive title, don’t you think?)

Change in the workplace is good. It promotes the development of new skills. Without change companies become stagnant in their products and service offerings. There’s no innovation. Change forces people to reveal their true colors. They are either capable in seeing the greater good or they throw up roadblocks and actually work against the goals of the business.

Communication is essential when it comes to change. People need to understand why it’s important and how it affects the mission of the organization. They need to understand the nature of the change, what the process for change will be, what role they will play in the process and how will it impact them.

Of course there are varying degrees of change whether it’s in your professional or personal life.  Regardless of where it originates, I’m going to choose to embrace it and hopefully grow from it.
