May 2019 President's Message

President's Message

I think that communicators are too hard on ourselves. It’s not our fault, at least in English speaking countries, because our primary language tricks us into believing quality is convoluted. Of course, you can master English through tough, thorough, thought though.

But something has happened in the past few weeks in our popular culture that should help all of us breathe a little easier. I, of course, am speaking of the final season of Game of Thrones. Six episodes, created over the course of 16 months, with almost $100million spent with 1,000 people involved, and somehow a coffee cup AND a plastic water bottle made it on TV.

Everybody is fallible.

Even the board of your IABC chapter. Of course, we’d like to think that everything we do is BRILLIANT, but we know that even we have our Dragon Pit moments. That’s why we’re working on a new survey for the members, guests, and participants of our events. Please look for it in an email coming soon, and feel free to share it among your network.

I’m SO SO excited about our June programming. Not just because I love the food at the Pennant, but because its infiltration into Topeka’s zeitgeist has been so dramatically successful, and I want to learn about their coffee cup moments.

See you next week!
