August 2018 President's Message

As President, obviously I HAVE to have a pro-IABC mindset. But in a recent conversation, I found myself literally thinking, "Oh, thank God I have IABC."

It was a conversation about networking. A new non-profit leader was weighing the pros and cons of different organizations she could get involved with. I thought I was asking a logical question when I said, "Well, who does your board chair or your mentor suggest?"

She went on to tell me she didn’t want to ask for recommendations because she didn’t want to give the impression that she wasn’t “in the know.”

Needless to say, we had a long chat about the value of authentic networking and being open to true professional development.

Friends, none of us can do this on our own. I need partners, I need ideas, I need advice, sometimes I need to know that I’m not alone. And for 10 years, at least once a month, my source for that has been IABC/Topeka.

I am honored to have had my term as president extended by a year, and I look forward to working with my new board, and all of you, to grow this chapter to new heights. I promise to ask for help along the way.

Jesyca Hope

IABC/Topeka President
